Mineral oils are petrochemicals. They are non-degradable, non-renewable and can cause global warming. Vaseline, so very frequently used is another grade of mineral oil. It’s also called Paraffin wax or Petrolatum. The oil version (like in baby oils) is called Liquid paraffin or Liquid Petrolatum.
How are mineral oils extracted? Mineral oil is a refined byproduct of crude oil. The refining process is done through distillation, which creates more than just mineral oil. Crude oil, also known as petroleum, can be refined into butane, gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel and heavy gas oils.
It has no nutrition or benefits (apart from it coating the skin like plastic) at all. Big companies have made huge profits selling this cheap oil (a petrochemical which we have been using on babies and us for years!) using brilliant marketing.
It’s about time to open your mind and know what’s around you and what are companies selling you.
